Adam Noah Levine conceived in Los Angeles on March 18, 1979. Adam’s parents, Fredric Levine and Patsy, divorced when Adam seven years old. His family is musical and he credits his musical style to growing up listening and learning from his mother’s musical heroes, Fleetwood Mac and Simon & Garfunkle.

Jesse Carmichael, and Mickey Madden (future Maroon 5 members), met Levine at Brentwood School. Kara’s Flowers was founded by Ryan Dusick, Carmichael and Madden in February 1994. They opened Whisky a Go Go West Hollywood in 1995 with Levine as vocalist and guitarist.

Tommy Allen, a producer, saw the band while they were performing at a Malibu beach party. Allen and his partner asked Kara’s Flowers for an 11-track album. Rob Cavallo signed them to reprise recordings. The band’s first album, The Fourth World, was released in August 1997.

They also appeared on Beverly Hills, 90210 in 1997. The band toured the country to promote their CD after they graduated from high school. However, it was not a huge success. After the record had only sold about 5,000 copies, Reprise decided to disband the band and Kara’s Flowers was formed.
