Blue Java Banana: Because They Taste Like Ice Cream

Blue Java Banana: The Blue Java Banana appears to be a fraud in every way: Is it possible for the fruit to be this blue?

Is it true that it tastes like ice cream? Is it true that Sirs Ben and Jerry invented it on a night when they felt they’d mastered the world of pints and wanted to move on to more fanciful creations?!

The latter portion is a complete fabrication, but the first two are correct. According to the experts at Fast-Growing-Trees.com, Blue Java Bananas are known as “ice cream bananas” because of their creamy texture and flavour, which is weirdly evocative of vanilla custard or soft serve.

You Should Be Planting Blue Java Bananas

Before they ripen, they’re bluish—or blue-green—and seem tailor-made for pureeing and freezing into the one-ingredient ice cream (AKA frozen banana puree) that goes viral every summer.

According to the Huffington Post, the bananas are fluffier and creamier than regular bananas, and they grow in Hawaii, Southeast Asia, and portions of Central America.

Though they prefer tropical climes, they can tolerate chilly temperatures as long as they get enough sunlight. So, if you’re itching to try them, why not start with planting a tree?

Blue Java Banana Trees can be purchased from Fast-Growing-Trees.com and Amazon. You can either buy seeds or a live plant, depending on the level of commitment you’re willing to make—and your wallet.

With some banana tree fertiliser and a cabana daybed, you’ll be well on your way to transforming your backyard into an oasis. Bring on the vibes of a vacay.

The claim is based on an image of Blue Java bananas with a vanilla ice cream flavour.

Two photos of bananas are shown in a Facebook post

That has been shared hundreds of times. However, not just any bananas will do.

The wording of the July 18 article says, “This is Blue Java banana and it tastes like vanilla ice cream.” “It is mostly grown in Southeast Asia, according to specialists, and is particularly popular in Hawaii.”

Each photo has brilliant blue bananas, peels and all. However, the post portrays the fruit in a false light.

According to companies who sell the fruit, when Blue Java bananas are fully mature, they turn a creamy golden tint. When unripe, the bananas are blue-green, but not the hue seen in the Facebook post.

“There is a slight custard flavour so I can understand the ‘vanilla’ descriptor but it’s incredibly minor,” one reviewer who said they’d had a Blue Java banana stated.

The user who published the post was contacted by USA TODAY for comment.

True blue colour is not seen in the image.

Blue Java bananas are a specific type of banana. They have a “silver-green” or “blue-green” tint due to a thick layer of wax on top.

According to the book “Traditional Trees of Pacific Islands,” this fruit is also known as the “ice cream banana,” “Ney Mannan banana,” and “Blue Lubin,” among other names.

Blue Java bananas are regarded as having a sweet and smooth flavour and texture. Bananas are a hybrid fruit that comes from Southeast Asia.

The fruit isn’t as brilliant blue as the Facebook post makes it seem, according to Miami Fruit, a South Florida company that harvests and sells Blue Java bananas.

“We would describe the hue of Blue Java Bananas when they are unripe as blue-ish green,” Edelle Schlegel, co-owner of the farm, said in an email to USA TODAY. “When they’re ripe, the peel turns yellow and the flesh turns white,” says the author.

The flavour is “sweet and somewhat tangy like apple bananas, (and) the texture is very creamy,” according to Schlegel. Blue Java bananas are known as ice cream bananas because of their texture rather than their flavour, according to her.

Changed is our rating.

We evaluate the image that claims to show Blue Java bananas as ALTERED based on our study.

These bananas are real, but the photos on Facebook don’t do them justice in terms of hue. Blue Java bananas have a mild blue-green hue before they’re fully ripe, but they turn yellow as they mature.
