A California motorcycle police notices the truck’s ‘Califas’ licence plate, which leads to the driver’s arrest
Califas : A motorcycle police noticed a false vintage licence plate with a slang phrase for California, which led to the arrest of a truck driver earlier this week, according to officials.
An officer stopped a tractor-trailer in Moorpark on Monday after seeing a counterfeit licence plate that read “Califas” instead of California, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
The plate appeared to be black with yellow text, similar to the California Legacy Plate, except the state name was misspelt.
According to a news release from Senior Deputy David Anaya, the motorist looked to be under the influence of narcotics during the investigation.
According to the sheriff’s office, the driver was arrested for driving under the influence, possession of methamphetamine, being an unlicensed driver, and having an active warrant for his arrest.

The truck had to be taken away as well because it was “unsafe to drive,” according to Anaya. Officials have not stated when the incident occurred.
The arrest, according to the sheriff’s office, was one of many for safety concerns involving commercial vehicles travelling through Moorpark, which sees roughly 243 commercial vehicles pass through every hour.
Last year, deputies issued 983 commercial truck traffic and parking penalties and detained many drivers for a range of offences, including driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, possessing fraudulent driver’s licences or vehicle registrations, and outstanding warrants.
