What is a Chomo? | Chomo Meaning

Chomo

Chomo is slang for a child molester, whether or not the individual in question is a pedophile. When used as a warning, it means that someone is suspected of being a real pedophile, however, when used as an insult, it means that someone is spending time with children when they shouldn’t be. It can also be used as a lighthearted jab between pals.

Chomo beginnings

Chomo began in the United States‘ jail system in the 1960s or 1970s. Once their crimes were discovered, child molesters would face a very grim future in prison. They’d be despised at best by the other inmates. At worst, other convicts would attack and maybe kill the pedophile. Torture by other inmates, including castration, rape, and extremely harsh punishments such as the use of a pipe and barbed wire, was the absolute worst thing that could happen to child molesters. During the 1980s, jail slang began to make its way into the public lexicon, and several phrases, such as chomo, became widely used in the 1990s and 2000s.

Chomo Example of a Conversation

Friendship Messages:

  • Friend 1: I’m not a fan of Kyle. He spends far too much time with my niece.
  • Friend 2: But isn’t he dating your sister, right?
  • Friend 1: He is, for sure. However, I have a horrible feeling about him.
  • Friend 2: Do you think he’s a Chomo?
  • Friend 1: I’m not sure. To be safe, I’m keeping my eyes peeled.

Email address for the prison guard:

“Team. This week, we’ll be receiving a new prisoner. Mr. Davidson, to be precise. He’s been convicted of many charges of child molestation and is known among the inmates as a “chomo,” according to our sources. Please keep in mind that it is our responsibility to ensure that the inmates follow the rules. Keep a watch on Mr. Davidson and make sure he isn’t attacked by the other inmates. I’m not going to believe any “my back was turned” nonsense, and I’m not going to put up with anyone who turns a blind eye. Thank you very much.”
