Christie Smythe, the ex-journalist who abandoned her husband and work for “Pharma Bro” Martin Shkreli, admitted that she skipped her first marriage counselling session to visit the convicted felon in prison, as she lashed out at critics of her ex-lover.
Smythe, 39, told The Sunday Times that she and her ex-husband were scheduled to begin treatment the day she was allowed to visit Shkreli for the first time at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
The former Bloomberg reporter said she came 52 minutes into the hour-long session after seeing the notorious prisoner while employed by the news organisation.
“He counted the minutes,” Smythe told the newspaper. “We did eventually seek marriage counselling, and it was, of course, a disaster.” “No advice was offered.”
She described it as “emblematic” of the relationship she ended to be with Shkreli.

The ex-journalist was attacked online after Elle magazine published an article in 2020 detailing how she “upended” her life for “one of the most despised guys”
Shkreli was so enraged by the article that he released Smythe from prison via a statement provided by his attorney to the magazine. She told The Post in May that they continue to communicate and remain friends.
“I anticipate seeing him and giving him a hug.
