The recordings are believed to have been stored on a flash drive by Springer; however, what kind of acts were committed remains unknown.

Deputies took the dog away from the previous couple and took it to a nearby animal hospital for a routine checkup. Police did not specify what breed of canine it was, but did note that there had been no apparent accidents.

Calello and Springer were each taken into custody on August 2 and lodged in Pinellas County Jail; however, jail data obtained by NYPost indicates Calello was released after paying his $5,000 bond.

Jail records show Calello was arrested and charged with domestic violence in May. Springer, who had never been arrested before, was let go without bail or on his own promise. As of Thursday afternoon, neither party had been given a court date; investigations are continuing.

In Florida, being cruel to animals is a misdemeanor of the first degree that could land you up to one year in jail. Muscala Regulation, an attorney firm, reports that those found breaking this law often pay a $1,000 fine as well.

According to The Daily Mail, sexual acts with animals are against the law in most US locations except Wyoming, New Mexico, Hawaii and West Virginia where there are no clear regulations against it; instead it’s referred to as animal abuse.

According to The Journal of Qualitative Prison Justice and Criminology, there are no reliable statistics on how often individuals engage in bestiality. However, analysis reveals that 5-8% of males and three-4% of girls do engage in this behavior.

Abuse of animals is nothing new; it happens daily around the world, with canines particularly vulnerable. According to The Irish Solar, in December 2019, a 29-year-old Irish woman was accused of engaging in sexual act with her mixed breed (half Rottweiler) canine at her residence; similar to what occurred in Cork.

Last June, this case was tried at Dublin District Court docket; she was charged with one offence against Person Act 1861.
