Coach David Culley is Fired By The Houston Texans On Thursday
TEXAS — David Culley was fired by the Texans on Thursday, four days after Houston finished its 4-13 season under his leadership.
General manager Nick Caserio of the Texans said in a statement sent by the organisation, “I arrived to this difficult but necessary decision after examining our football operation.
While a change after one season is unusual, we had philosophical differences over the long-term direction and vision for our programme moving forward.
We are grateful to Coach Culley for guiding us through a challenging season, but it is my duty to decide what is best for our company.
Culley stated that he had 3 years left on his contract and that his income was guaranteed to the Houston media outlets Sports Talk 790 and KRIV-TV. I relished every second of my tenure as the Houston Texans’ head coach.
I’m grateful that the players and coaches stuck by me during our season’s ups and downs “Culley stated in a team statement that was made public.
I’m unhappy that we didn’t win more games and that I won’t have the opportunity to build on the things I’ve learned, but I completely understand that this is a business with a bottom line, and I didn’t do enough,” the player said.
The dismissal occurs a year after the Texans hired Culley, a seasoned assistant who, at 65, became the league’s oldest first-time head coach.
Culley was the only Black head coach appointed in the NFL last offseason and one of three this season. He was hired by Texans chair and CEO Cal McNair and Caserio.
Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers is now the only Black head coach in the NFL after Brian Flores was let go by the Miami Dolphins earlier this week.
