Fema Hazard Pay: The US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is allegedly paying hazard pay compensation to anyone who worked during the new coronavirus outbreak, according to Facebook posts shared thousands of times.

However, the posts link to a fake website with an ape image, and economic assistance funds are administered by the US Treasury Department, not FEMA, and are not linked to hazardous activity.
“FEMA has officially granted 1 time hazard pay compensation payments up to $4800.00 per person if you worked during the Covid19 pandemic,” say messages that have been circulating on Facebook since July 16, 2020. The assertion was also made in Spanish, as seen here and here

The ads promise to provide a direct connection to apply for funds, however the URL is not a FEMA site, and clicking on the link displays an unpleasant photo of a gorilla.
While some Facebook sites, such as Cop Humor, shared the post as a joke, other accounts did not do so as explicitly.
The posts went viral at a time when Congress is discussing a second stimulus measure to combat the coronavirus’s severe economic impact and resulting lockdowns, with both Republicans and Democrats backing increased individual relief payments in the face of rising numbers of cases.

Individual payments “of up to $1,200 per individual and an extra $500 per kid, subject to limits depending on adjusted gross income,” according to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, which was signed into law by President Donald Trump on March 27, 2020.

The US Department of the Treasury, not FEMA, is in charge of the more than $2 trillion economic aid programme.
Direct relief payments to people are not mentioned on the official FEMA coronavirus homepage.
Rather, it provides information on how to get flood insurance if you dwell in one of the agency’s temporary housing units.
“Scammers are utilising COVID-19 to take advantage of individuals,” FEMA says on its “Coronavirus Rumor Control” webpage. Don’t believe anyone who says they can get you money right now.”
Hazard pay is granted “for performing hazardous duty or work involving physical hardship,” according to the US Department of Labor.
The Federal Government is not offered any Compensation | Fema Hazard Pay
Some stores paid front-line employees more to stay on the job during stay-at-home orders, although many of these initiatives were short-lived.
In addition, the state of Pennsylvania established a grant programme that allows firms to apply for cash to enhance the pay of vital workers.
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), which governs minimum wage and overtime pay, among other things, does not directly address the question of hazard pay, and no such compensation was offered by the federal government during the pandemic.
