Carlin’s 50-year career produced provocative, edgy material. In the 1970s, Carlin became an anti-Establishment icon with stand-up bits filled with drug references. He also created a routine called “Seven Words you Can Never Say on Television.” The U.S. Supreme Court won a regulatory battle over the broadcast of the routine.

Federal Communications Commission vs. Pacifica Foundation was a 1978 U.S. case. The top court ruled that Carlin’s routine contained indecent words and that the government could ban their broadcast when children could hear them.

Carlin, the Grammy-winning comedian, remained a regular on the comedy circuit. Carlin was to be awarded the John F. Kennedy Center’s prestigious Mark Twain Prize of American Humor in November. His publicist stated that Carlin had performed in Las Vegas during this month.

His comedy sensibility revolved around one central theme: humanity is a cursed and doomed species.

“I don’t hold any religious beliefs or allegiances. He said that he doesn’t believe or support this country.

Playboy heard Carlin tell Playboy 2005 that he hoped to live in an afterlife and be able to watch the decline of civilization via a “heavenly CNN.”

He said, “The world is a huge theatre-in the round as far as my concern, and I’d like to see it spin itself into oblivion.” “Tune in to see the human adventure.”
