They met during Kareem’s senior year at UCLA at Lakers. Soon after they began dating, the couple decided to make their vows together. The ceremony was performed according to Muslim customs on May 28, 1971.

Kareem AbdulJabbar was so committed to Islam that he didn’t invite his parents to the wedding. Talking to America Aljazeera Kareem revealed his regret at not inviting his parents to the wedding. It took Kareem more than a decade for him to correct this mistake.

He also said that he was so committed to Islam that he even married a woman Hammas suggested, even though he had strong feelings for another woman. The marriage was doomed right from the beginning.

Kareem, an ardent Muslim was married to according to the will of his teacher and then separated. Kareem, the man who won six NBA championships and dazzled everyone with his skyhook, had an unusual relationship to his ex-wife.

After their marriage, Habiba and Kareem had two children and lived briefly in separate houses. Since 1973, the former partners had never lived together.

According to the LA Times Kareem Abdul Jabbar said that Cheryl Pistono was his most significant influence. Kareem seems to have been persuaded by the woman who asked Kareem questions about his beliefs to get a divorce from an abusive marriage.

As mentioned, Kareem declared his desire to divorce Habiba when she was three months pregnant by Sultana. Kareem insisted that their marriage be ended in a religious ceremony, and then divorced them in civil court.

Their divorce was finalized March 1983. It is not known if Cheryl Pistono was involved in the divorce proceedings of the estranged couple. Both Jabbar and Janice (aka Habiba) moved quickly. Habiba Jabbar, also known as Habiba J. Herbert was remarried in 1986, giving birth to a son, Sean, while Kareem had already been blessed with Amir Abdul-Jabbar.

From his relationship with Julye Ols, Kareem has a son called Adam Abdul-Jabbar. Adam, however, was not like his half-siblings. He came to the limelight for negative reasons. In 2020, he was accused of stabbing his neighbor in a dispute. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced for six months in jail.
