Jeep Grand Wagoneer 2022: The all-new 2022 Grand Cherokee has been introduced, with the most powerful plug-in hybrid powertrain in the series.
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe’s four-cylinder turbocharged engine and electric motor combination, rated at 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, is used in the Grand Cherokee 4xe.
The hybrid system, which is only available in four-wheel-drive variants, outperforms the Grand Cherokee’s basic 293 horsepower V6 and optional 357 horsepower V8,
And is intended to provide up to 25 miles of all-electric driving before reverting to hybrid mode
The towing capacity of the three powertrains is 6,000 pounds (4xe), 6,300 pounds (V6), and 7,200 pounds (V8) respectively (V8).
The newly redesigned five-passenger Grand Cherokee is based on a short-wheelbase variant of the platform introduced this year under the three-row Grand Cherokee L and is just slightly larger than the outgoing model while providing the highest levels of luxury and technology for the brand.
A front-seat touchscreen display that can play video but is polarised so the driver can’t see it; a night-vision system that projects a live view ahead on the digital instrument cluster; and Active Driving Assist.
Which allows for hands-on adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping on geofenced stretches of road where Jeep knows it can operate safely as a lon.
The Grand Cherokee is offered in a variety of trim levels, including Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Trailhawk, Summit, and Summit Reserve.
With the V8 engine available from the Overland up and the 4xe drivetrain available from the Limited up.
Despite the electric motor’s output of only 134 horsepower and 181 lb-ft, the Trailhawk 4xe received Jeep’s Trail Rating by completing the whole Rubicon Trail in all-electric mode, with a couple of recharge stops along the route.
The Trailhawk grade is available with either of the engine options and comes standard with an active air suspension that can lift the body to give 11.3 inches of ground clearance with the V6 or V8 and 10.9 inches with the 4xe.
It also has a sway bar disconnect mechanism, similar to the Wrangler, that allows it to boost suspension articulation while driving off-road at low speeds.
The 2018 Grand Cherokee’s pricing will be revealed closer to the time when the V6 and V8 variants go on sale later this year.
The Grand Cherokee 4xe is expected to go into production in early 2022.
