Jim Jones was born Joseph Guillermo Jones II on July 15, 1976 in The Bronx (New York). As one of three children of Nancy Jones, Joseph Guillermo Jones, Jones was raised in Harlem. Jones has two sisters, Precious Jones and Keisha Jones.

He attended a Catholic school in the area and often skipped school to go to the station. He was raised alongside Freekey Zekey, another rapper. Jones was a troubled child. He caught in a shop stealing one time, which led to his expulsion from school.

When he was six years old, Jones met Dame Dash. She is a hip-hop legend who would become co-founder at Roc-A-Fella Records. As a youngster, Jones met Cameron Giles (aka Cam’ron). Both would have an enormous impact on each other’s musical careers.
