Jordin Sparks Thomas was born December 22, 1989. She is an American singer and actress. After being the youngest American Idol winner at age 17, she rose to fame in 2007.

Jordin Sparks was the son of Phillippi Sparks and Jodi W. Tom, who were former American football players. Jordin’s younger brother Phillippi “PJ”, Sparks Jr. plays football at Arizona Christian University. Her father is African-American and her mother is Norwegian.

Her father was a New York Giants defensiveback and she grew-up in Ridgewood, New Jersey. After moving from New Jersey, Sparks attended Northwest Community Christian School until the eighth grade. Sparks attended Sandra Day O’Connor high school until 2006.

Her grandma Pam Wiedmann homeschooled Sparks so that she could concentrate on her singing. Sparks is an evangelical Christian and attends Phoenix’s Calvary Community Church. She expresses gratitude for her success on American Idol. She was awarded the title of Arizona’s best young artist three years running.

Jordin Career Life

Sparks won and competed in talent contests like Coca-Rising Cola’s Star, the Gospel Music Association Academy’s Overall Spotlight Award and America’s Most Talented Kids. She also participated in the Colgate Country Showdown and the 2006 Drug Free AZ Superstar Search before she accepted to American Idol.

Jordin’s maternal grandmother Pam Wiedmann managed her from nine years of age until she won American Idol 2007. Sparks performed the national anthem at a number of local sporting events before she was chosen for Idol.

Sparks performed in Alice Cooper’s 2004 Christmas concert, and toured with Christian contemporary artist Michael W. Smith in 2006. Sparks was among six winners in the Phoenix Torrid “Next Plus Size Model” search in 2006. Sparks was flown to California by Torrid to appear in promotional materials and advertisements.

After winning American Idol 2007, Sparks signed with 19 Recordings/Jive Records, becoming the first Idol winner. She released “Tattoo” on August 27, her first single, and it reached number eight on Billboard’s Hot 100. The song was certified platinum in Australia and the United States. To date, “Tattoo”, has been sold more than two million copies in the United States.

Private life

Sparks suffered significant vocal cord hemorhaging in April 2008 due to overuse of her vocal chords. She was advised to rest her voice, and she put off booking concerts, including appearances on the Alicia Keys tour. Sparks was cleared by doctors one month later and she can resume the tour.

She and Jason Derulo were together for three years before they split in 2014.

Sparks married Dana Isaiah (born Dana Isaiah Thomas), a fitness model, in Hawaii on July 17, 2017. People magazine published her pregnancy in November 2017. Sparks gave birth on May 2, 2018, to her first child, which was a boy.
