I Love Lean!!! is a catchphrase and set of memes that sarcastically convey an inflated love for lean or purple drank, a drink composed of prescription-strength cough syrup containing codeine that is typically blended with Sprite and Jolly Ranchers.

The meme often pairs purple characters with the statement “I Love Lean” and first posted on the apandiscord Discord channel on November 20,21. It quickly grew and became popular on TikTok in Feb 2022, and then spread to other social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Similar to the I Love Cocaine meme of 2010,

Lean’s Origin

RareCandles#9767, a Discord user, posted a photoshopped photo of Carnage: Let There Be Carnage, edited to look purple. The image captioned “I LOVE LEAN !!!””. To apandiscord server, November 3rd 2021. Other users were spamming the image with the phrase “I love lean!” that day. Laughs about lean common on Discord since at least August 2021.

Where did Lean Meme Spread ?

Ioquat, an iFunny user, shared the picture that day. The post traveled almost 870 km in three months. Over the next month, the picture distributed on many Discord servers.

BigShotElba uploaded a voiced version of the meme on January 4, 2022. After posting a screenshot of a TikTok account showing a purple Springtrap, FNaF, with the quote over it on January 17th, Instagram user dj bolbi2 received over 200 likes.

Instagram user seaman games created a meme on January 23rd in which The Man Behind the Slaughter repeated the line. It reposted by proud women respecters on February 2nd and received over 1,900 likes.

Unfriendlymemepage, an Instagram user released a purple Doom Edit in which Doomguy removes the “Leancible”, from its resting place on February 13, 2013. It received over 13,400 views within two days.

The same person used the phrase in the Smiling Friends meme on February 13, 2022. It received more than 5,300 likes in just two days. Kanye Albania, an Instagram user, shared a Kanye holding notepad meme that included the sentence. He edited Kanye’s appearance to make him purple.
