Mohammad Anwar : The second minor girl condemned to juvenile jail in connection with the violent death of an Uber Eats driver in a botched carjacking in Washington, D.C., was sentenced on Tuesday.
Mohammad Anwar, an Uber Eats driver, was killed by a 14-year-old girl
The youngster, now 14, will be released from custody when she reaches the age of 21, according to FOX 5 Washington D.C. On March 23, she and another juvenile girl attempted to carjack Mohammad Anwar, 66, near Nationals Park, when she was 13 years old.
During the encounter, the girls allegedly assaulted him with a Taser near the Navy Yard metro stop. Anwar is seen clinging to the suspects’ vehicle before it crashes and flips over on a nearby street in video footage from the encounter.
Anwar, a grandfather and Pakistani immigrant, was thrown and perished near the wreckage. The girls were apprehended on the spot.
Last month, the teenager pled guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced on Tuesday. In June, the other girl, who was 15 at the time of the incident, was sentenced to the same punishment.
During her June 4 sentencing, Anwar’s relatives told the judge that he was a family man with a good heart who worked in Kuwait for many years to support his Pakistani family before being able to move to the United States to pursue the American Dream.
During the sentencing hearing, his daughter also mentioned that the offender had a past record and that her father had been “failed by the law in this city.”
“Is the law supposed to protect us or them?” she wondered. “Why wasn’t she at a facility on that particular day?”
