Owen Hart Death Cause
Hart was killed at the Over the Edge pay per view event in Kansas City, Missouri on May 23, 1999. Hart being lifted from Kemper Arena’s rafters onto the ring via harness and grapple for an Intercontinental Championship fight against The Godfather.
The Blazer, in keeping with his new “buffoonish super hero” image, was lowered to just below ring level. Hart would then act “entangled,” then free himself from the safety harness and tumble to his face. This required the use a quick release mechanism.
It’s an extension to a Blue Blazer prank that performed on Sunday Night Heat in 1998. Hart fell 78 feet (24m) while being lowered in the ring. Hart landed chest-first on top rope (about one foot from closest turnbuckle), and then thrown into it.
Owen has done this trick only a few times before. Hart’s wife Martha believes Hart caused an early release by moving around to become comfortable wearing the harness and cape. Television viewers did not see the event. A prerecorded vignette of the event was shown on the pay-per view broadcast as well as the monitors in darkened stadium.
The live feed showed only the crowd as Hart being treated inside the ring by medical staff. Jim Ross, a WWF television announcer, repeatedly reminded viewers who were watching the live event on pay-per view that this was not a plot or wrestling angle and that Hart had sustained serious injuries. He also stressed the gravity of the situation.
Hart taken to Kansas City’s Truman Medical Center. He died from his injuries despite numerous attempts to revive him. The cause of his death was determined to be internal bleeding due to blunt force injuries. Hart, who was 34 years old, died shortly after his aorta ruptured from the hit.
