Sweethearts from high school
When Mahomes and Matthews, both 25, met in high school at Whitehouse High School in Texas, they began dating.
Matthews was a junior, while Mahomes was a sophomore.
Mahomes and his girlfriend started dating when he was a member of his high school football team and also played basketball. Matthews, on the other hand, was a soccer star.
According to the Kansas City Star, friends who attended school with the couple referred to Matthews as Mahomes’ “rock.”
Mahomes even dedicated a page in his high school yearbook to Matthews and his family.
She was a professional soccer player in another country.
Matthews became a collegiate star at The University of Texas at Tyler after excelling at soccer in high school.
She signed a contract to play soccer for Iceland’s UMF Afturelding/Fram team after finishing her career at UT Tyler.
Her family was in attendance, as was Mahomes himself, for her big signing.
“When I graduated high school, I didn’t even see myself playing college soccer,” Matthews told the Tyler Morning Telegraph.
“However, I chose to come to UT Tyler to play soccer because it was close to home and I knew a few girls who loved it and encouraged me to join the team.
So I did, and the last four years have rekindled my love for soccer and renewed my desire to play professional soccer.
“Every coach I had at UT Tyler had a significant influence on my passion for the game and decision to pursue a professional career in soccer.
I had an opportunity in Iceland, and I couldn’t pass up such an incredible opportunity to do what I love.”
She has a kinesiology degree and has started her own company.
Matthews was a standout on and off the field, as well as in the classroom.
Matthews earned a kinesiology degree from UT Tyler and went on to become a certified fitness trainer, turning her passion for sports into a business called Brittany Lynne Fitness.
“I was a professional soccer player in Iceland after graduating from college.
By the end of my first season, I had fallen in love with working out in the gym more than playing soccer “Matthews mentioned it on the company’s website.
“I’ve always been active, and playing sports in college taught me about strength training, wellness, and maintaining peak fitness in order to perform at an elite level.”
“As a Certified Personal Trainer with a four-year bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, I’ve worked with people of all fitness levels and used that knowledge to design exercise programmes for people at all stages of their fitness journey,” she explained.
“Working hard, staying dedicated, not making excuses, and most importantly, no BS!” are the core tenets of her workout programme.
She isn’t afraid to express herself.

Matthews is frequently outspoken in her support for fiancé Mahomes, even if it means criticising others.
As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers thrashed the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV on Sunday, Matthews chastised ESPN for photos on the company’s Twitter account showing her quarterback beau looking stunned.
In one tweet, she sarcastically wrote, “Cool ESPN, love the support of a major sports platform for one of the best players in the league.”
Following the Chiefs’ victory over the Baltimore Ravens on “Monday Night Football,” Matthews made headlines by slamming critics of her fiancé.
The couple is expecting a baby girl and is engaged.
Prior to the start of the 2019 NFL season, Mahomes proposed to Matthews shortly after receiving his Super Bowl ring.
Mahomes said proposing to his longtime girlfriend Matthews was more nerve-wracking than the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl in an interview with KCSP 610 Sports Radio.
“I’d say he’s probably proposing,” Mahomes said of the more nerve-wracking situation.
“When you’ve been with someone for a long time, you don’t think it’ll be nerve-wracking, but man, your heart’s racing before you get down on one knee. That I can assure you.”
Following the proposal, Matthews wrote on Instagram, “On a day that was meant to celebrate you, you turned it into celebrating us.”
“It’s always you and me, it’s always us. The words you said to me right now as you looked into my eyes will never leave my mind! You made this day perfect; you took my breath away, and I couldn’t imagine a better way to spend it.
