Rachael Ray House Fire: A month after a fire destroyed nearly all of Rachael Ray’s belongings, including cooking notes, photo albums, and her dream kitchen in upstate New York, the celebrity chef is speaking out about the tragedy.
Ray tweeted new photographs of her home in ruins on Monday, ahead of the “Rachael Ray” show’s “very odd” season 15 launch, in which she described how the fire started.
“My house caught fire on August 9th. Ray remarked at the start of her show Monday, “15 years of memories; 40 years of notebooks, sketches, thoughts, my life’s work.”

“It took about an hour for this house to tumble down – and it took decades to build in my head.” I learned a great deal in the years I spent here. I believe I’ve learnt even more in the weeks since it burnt. We’re going to show you what’s left of our house today.”
Ray explained that the fire started in the chimney, which had been cleaned twice a year. Prior to dinner with her husband, John Cusimano, she had built a fire in the fireplace. She remembered a man shouting in their garden before they sat down.
“A person on an ATV was passing through our property and came down the hill to say, ‘Your roof’s on fire.’ Ray described it as “literally yelling it in our backyard.” “We stepped outdoors, and that was indeed the case.”
Ray and Cusimano were informed that the man had phoned the fire department. Ray “quickly” dashed upstairs to retrieve “important items” such as “medicines, pictures, and notes.”
She explained, “I heard the fire in the walls.” “It was shivering and bloodcurdling from head to toe.” When I turned to leave, a first responder stood immediately in front of me, yelling, ‘Get out, get out now.’ ‘You must leave.’
“I went to get the dog, and that was it,” she continued. “We moved out of our house.”
On Monday, Cusimano joined Ray on the show
“We literally simply watched our house burn and burn and burn the night the fire happened,” he stated. “I couldn’t get it to stop.” ‘Oh God, what’s going to be left?’ you’re thinking. Then the next day, we went up there… and there was damage all over. “Oh my God, there’s no house left,” we exclaimed.
Ray and her family are currently sleeping across the street in their guest house, where she is filming her show. She stated that the house would have to be bulldozed and rebuilt over the course of a year.
Ray said in a tweet Monday, “Thank you to all our first responders, viewers + friends for their unwavering support.” “We are appreciative and aware of how lucky we are in many ways,” said the group.

At around 8 p.m. on Aug. 9, firefighters hurried to Ray’s Lake Luzerne, N.Y. house on Chuckwagon Trail, roughly an hour north of Albany, to combat the fire.
Ray said she designed the home and had “worked 35 years” to get the gas stove and pizza oven of her dreams during a tour of the residence earlier this year. A big kitchen block and “The Avenger,” a professional dishwasher, are featured in the open kitchen.
During the COVID-19 outbreak, Ray, who has owned the house since 2013, was recording episodes of the “Rachael Ray Show” in the home kitchen, making food alongside her husband (and an at-home camera man).
