McShay works as a sideline reporter for ESPN’s college football coverage and is an NFL draught analyst. On Saturday, he sat on the bench.
McShay has been with ESPN since 2006 and has played an essential role in the network’s football coverage during that time. While he was overseas, the network said he had their full backing.

McShay graduated in 1995 from North Shore Christian School in Lynn, Massachusetts, and Swampscott High School in Swampscott, Massachusetts, where he played quarterback for the Big Blue.
He subsequently went to the University of Richmond, where he was a walk-on in 1995 and served as a scout-team quarterback[4] before suffering a back injury that ended his college career.
In 1999, he received a B.A. from Richmond’s Jepson School of Leadership Studies.
A professional life
Before landing an internship with veteran NFL scout Gary Horton in 1998, McShay served as an undergraduate team equipment manager at the University of Richmond.
Following graduation, McShay worked full-time at “The War Room,” a start-up periodical founded by Horton that was eventually purchased by ESPN and renamed “Scouts Inc.” from 1999 until 2006.
In 2006, he joined ESPN as a football commentator, where he provided in-depth scouting information on college football players from all over the country.
He frequently appears on ESPN programs such as ESPNU Coaches Spotlight, SportsCenter, and ESPN Radio, focusing on the NFL Draft. He is commonly seen in interviews with ESPN college football commentator Mel Kiper, Jr.
McShay announced his departure from ESPN on September 7, 2021, to “focus on my health and my family.” This happened three days after he worked as a sideline reporter for an ESPN college football broadcast, during which viewers voiced concern about his well-being on social media during an on-air segment.
Private life
Lauren “Lo” (Sullivan) McShay, a Boston University graduate and proprietor of LoLo Event Design in Boston, is McShay’s wife.
McShay grew up with Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, was a roommate with him and has a friendship with him.
