Russian anti-doping agency blames outbreak of Covid for delay in testing

Russian Anti-Doping Agency has stated that a COVID-19 outbreak is the main reason why a sample of doping was not test. While it deals with this outbreak that has affected the entire country and caused death, the agency expects to keep working.

The IOC last week confirmed that the case against a young figure skater had been report positively. This was a day after Russia won the gold medal in women’s team figure skating.

WADA stated it was annoy by the delay.

WADA also criticized the Russian Anti-Doping Agency’s handling of the case. The CAS claims that the agency did not mark the sample high-priority, possibly affecting the testing of athletes.

WADA is concerned by the finding of ‘no fault or negligence in Valieva’s doping case

The panel’s verdict does not automatically mean Valieva is disqualified from any future competitive results. However, this decision has a likely knock-on effect over the long term. WADA will assess whether the CAS ruling conforms to the World Anti-Doping Code, WADA and its rules.

WADA claims it has asked for a copy the entire reasoning behind this decision. It indicated also that it intends to pursue the matter further.

According to a recent report, WADA will not hesitate to seek a court of arbitration for sport (CAS) decision in the case of Valieva. The United States could see an increase in their participation in the 2022 Winter Olympics Beijing team event.
