What Happened To Caleb On American Idol: Caleb Kennedy is speaking out about his time on “American Idol” for the first time since his exit in May.

The 16-year-old country singer debuted on “Idol” in October 2020 and advanced to the Top 5 before exiting the programme abruptly after a contentious social media post leaked online. Kennedy appeared alongside someone wearing what appeared to be a Ku Klux Klan hood in a Snapchat post.

“Now that I’m at home, I try to be myself, but I’m also afraid about being videoed at Academy or Walmart.” On Thursday, Kennedy told the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, part of the USA TODAY Network, that “you have to think about stuff like that now.”

Kennedy confessed that he underestimated the pressures of performing on a popular show like “Idol” while speaking about his stint on the show.

You think it’ll all be enjoyable, and it will be for the most part, but it will slap you in the face very quickly.” “I wasn’t prepared,” he admitted. “There’s no way to emotionally prepare for ‘Idol,’ because no one is prepared for it, no matter how much preparation there is.”

Despite the difficulties, he said he didn’t have any regrets, adding, “I did love it.”

Kennedy has indicated that he has continued to write music since his departure, including songs about his time on “Idol.” He gave the Herald-Journal some of his lyrics.

“On the west coast, I’m living like a rock star. It’s strange how those who claim to love you the most change their minds.”

Viewers were taken aback in May when Kennedy did not come on the broadcast to sing with the season’s Top 5 finalists. Kennedy’s absence was scarcely mentioned on the broadcast by host Ryan Seacrest, who said at the start of the show that the high school student “would not be continuing in the competition.”

Judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, however, responded to the controversy in a virtual Q&A after the broadcast. “First and foremost, as judges and as a panel of judges, we adore these kids and get emotionally invested in them,” Bryan explained. “We wish Caleb nothing but the best, and it’s been a very difficult and upsetting week for him.”

Richie stated that he believes the adolescent will benefit from the experience.

“As we get older, we make mistakes, and we look back on our lives and wonder, ‘God, what was I thinking about when I did that?’ “This is one of those instances,” he explained.

Kennedy apologised on Instagram before announcing his leave on May 12th.

Hey y’all, this may come as a shock, but I will no longer be on ‘American Idol,'” he wrote. “A video leaked on the internet depicted activities that were not intended to be taken in that manner.

I was younger and did not consider the consequences of my actions, but it is not an excuse. I’d like to apologise to all of my fans and anyone else I’ve disappointed.”

Kennedy’s family said the video was made when he was 12, and his mother, Anita Guy, said the video “was taken after Caleb had watched the movie ‘The Strangers: Prey at Night and they were emulating those characters. There isn’t a racist bone in Caleb’s body,” she added.
