According to IMDB, most scenes in This is cast of this is 40 were shot inside a Brentwood house located in Los Angeles, California – owned by director Judd Apatow’s colleague producer Bryan Zuriff. Scenes featuring Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann’s luxurious residence are all set inside this same Brentwood house which also featured in 2007’s Knocked Up as its precursor; however, due to financial troubles the couple must sell it now.
Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California was another major location used in This is 40. All hotel scenes were shot there. Canyon Elementary School in Santa Monica also provided outdoor school scenes featuring Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann’s children. Finally, Mar Vista, Los Angeles served as the set for ‘Americana 88’.
Judd Apatow’s children also appear in the movie. Maude Apatow, Judd’s eldest daughter, plays Rudd and Mann’s 13-year-old daughter while
plays their nine-year-old. The plot revolves around married couple Pete and Debbie as they near 40; however their businesses start failing as their marriage becomes increasingly stressed due to their children.
