Later that day, authorities filed the arrest warrant with the Austin Municipal City Court.

Kaitlin was caught by local authorities on June 29 at Don Jon’s Surf and Yoga Lodge on Santa Teresa Beach in Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica, after a 43-day manhunt. According to investigators, she then flew from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to Houston and then to New York’s LaGuardia Airport on May 14.
Armstrong was driven to Newark International Airport in New Jersey on May 18, but no tickets were issued in her name for any outgoing flights. On May 25, a federal arrest warrant for Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution was issued, elevating the inquiry to a serious case.
