On March 1, 2023 his family confirmed the news via an official announcement on his Instagram page; shortly thereafter his family released a statement acknowledging his passing. Let us now investigate what caused his sudden demise and how it occurred.
According to reports, the news of Bhengu’s passing was confirmed on an official Instagram page. A statement reads, “With deep sorrow we acknowledge the untimely passing of our beloved son and brother Lentswe Bhengu-Mafoko – better known to family, friends and his culinary family as Chef Lentswe”.

Since his family confirmed his passing, fans and family have paid tribute to him and offered their deepest condolences for those going through a difficult time. It is hard to accept that Lentswe Bhengu has left this world, leaving his loved ones and friends grieving. Bhengu was born and raised in KwaZulu-Natal where he developed an interest in food and dining from an early age; by age 8, he began cooking alongside his mother as she worked in the kitchen.
He donned a chef jacket upon enrolling at the esteemed Culinary Academy of the Cape Winelands, trading in his suit and tie for some impressive culinary creations in some of Cape Winelands’ top restaurants.
As time passed, his talents continued to blossom and opened new doors for him in this field of work.
Bhengu was frequently seen at food festivals, events and expos; some of his artwork had even been commissioned overseas. Unfortunately, neither his family nor friends have confirmed the cause of his passing nor shared funeral or obituary details yet.
