George Soros Arrested: is a philanthropist and wealthy investor who has donated to liberal and anti-authoritarian causes all around the world.
As a result, he’s been the subject of conspiracy theories for a long time, and 2020 is no exception.
Some alleged there were fraudulent connections between Soros and Moderna, a company working on the coronavirus vaccine. Others falsely claimed he assisted in the financing and transportation of demonstrators to Black Lives Matter rallies.
A new claim has emerged recently: Soros has been detained for election-related offences and is being held in federal detention in Philadelphia.
George Soros Arrested for election related crimes
Conservative Beaver, a website that claims to provide “news of interest to Proud Canadians,” initially published the claim on Nov. 23.
According to the narrative, “Soros committed a number of significant offences prior to the US election,” according to what seems to be a freshly unsealed indictment filed in the Western District of Pennsylvania. As proof, the report includes a link to images of the alleged indictment on Twitter.
The indictment focuses solely on Soros’ alleged criminal activities prior to the election, including wire fraud, identity theft, and computer damage,” it said. “None of these allegations have been proven in court, and Soros is presumed innocent unless and until he is found guilty.”
Users shared screenshots of headlines about the alleged arrest on Facebook after the claim spread.
Conservative Beavers and the Facebook user who made the post have not replied to requests for comment from USA TODAY.
Soros has not been apprehended; the indictment was doctored.
Soros has not been charged with any election-related offences. All of Conservative Beaver’s assertions are based on images of an indictment that isn’t real.
It’s a doctored version of a real indictment issued by the Department of Justice on Oct. 19 against six Russian hackers.
Indeed, down to “Criminal No. 20-316” and its characteristic markings, the indictment is identical to the one that Conservative Beaver claims are against Soros.
Take a look at the indictment in its entirety.
The only distinction? Six hackers’ names were obliterated and replaced with “Schwartz Gyorgy aka George Soros.”
The faked indictment still says “defendants” under his name, as if there were multiple people charged – another red flag that is not real.
Soros has not been detained or charged with any misconduct, according to any other evidence or trustworthy media reports.
According to a spokesman from Soros’ Open Society Foundations, the notion that he was arrested is “completely incorrect.”
The idea that George Soros
The idea that George Soros was jailed in Philadelphia for election-related offences is FALSE, according to our research. Soros has not been charged with any offences relating to the election.
The only proof of his alleged arrest was a snapshot of an indictment, but it wasn’t genuine. It’s a doctored version of a real indictment filed by the Department of Justice in October against six hackers.
