He became a victim of kidnapping

Harry was 16 months old when he was kidnapped by an ex-Employee of Letterman’s. Kelly A. Frank, a former employee of Letterman’s, had previously worked as a house painter on Letterman’s ranch and held a key to his home. He planned to kidnap the toddler and his nanny for $5 million.
The plot stopped before it could be executed, fortunately. Frank shared his plan with a friend who promptly contacted authorities. Frank was charged with felony embezzlement. He received a 10-year sentence as part of a plea agreement.
Harry stays out of the spotlight

Letterman claims that Harry has no immediate plans to follow his father’s path, but Letterman believes his son has retained his sense of humor.
