Kamala Harris has been chastised for her ‘cringe’ response to concerns about the border: ‘This isn’t a funny joke
Kamala Harris Laughing : Following her uncomfortable response to concerns about the ongoing border crisis, Vice President Kamala Harris faced a barrage of criticism on Tuesday.
NBC’s Lester Holt asked Harris when she would be visiting the border, a topic that has been posed since she took over the Biden administration’s management of the border crisis in March.
“We have been to the border,” Harris stated, ostensibly referring to other administration officials, to which Holt replied that Harris had not been to the border.
“I’ve also never gone to Europe. I mean, I’m not sure what you’re trying to say “She laughed as she replied.
Following her reaction, Harris was chastised on social media, with some, including Republican members of Congress, telling her it was “not a joke to laugh at” and slamming her for making light of the border crisis.
Others remarked on Harris’ “inability” to respond to the issue, pointing out that the conversation was about “a crisis — not a vacation.”
Harris travelled to Guatemala and Mexico on Monday to address concerns about illegal immigration, delivering her first border press conference since taking over command of the crisis 75 days ago.
The trip came after Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei blamed the Biden administration for the increased number of migrants attempting to cross the border into the United States the day before.
Harris assured him that migration was a high priority, but she cited climate change and the economics of Central America as the main drivers of illegal immigration, rather than the administration, as he claimed.
