After her son William had a child, Alley became a grandmother in 2016. Alley lived in Clearwater, Florida, from 2000 to her death in 2022. Alley lived on Islesboro Island from 1991 to 2020. Her husband was the one who owned the Mitchell Cottage. Alley later bought another house on Islesboro.

Alley, 71 years old, died of colon cancer on December 5, 2022. According to Alley’s children, the cancer was only recently discovered. She was currently receiving treatment in Tampa, Florida. Parker Stevenson was her ex-husband, and she had two children. Look Who’s Talking star John Travolta also posted condolences via social media. Ted Danson, Kelsey Grammer and Rhea Perlman, her Cheers co-stars, released condolences.
