lil ricky on my block: Face you’ve seen before Before joining the cast of On My Block season 4 as Ricardo Gilando, Benito Martinez had a long list of well-known TV and film credits.
Many viewers may have recognised actor Benito Martinez from some of his prior appearances after the surprise unveiling of Lil Ricky at the end of On My Block season 4.

On My Block is a Netflix adolescent drama that follows four high school friends from Freeridge and their hardships growing up in a violent inner-city Los Angeles area. While many fans were unsure what to expect from On My Block season 4, the show spent a lot of time tying up some loose ends for viewers.
The reveal of the group’s hero, Lil’ Ricky, was a much-anticipated episode. Lil’ Ricky planned a heist in the early 1980s as the creator of the Santos gang, seizing a large sum of money from RollerWorld, a local firm that the Prophets allegedly used to launder money, and hiding it for years.
Initially, it was assumed that Lil Ricky, like his co-conspirators, killed in the theft. Jamal discovers the buried money towards the end of season one, and the Santos regain it. Lil’ Ricky is later revealed to be still alive and in hiding. He finally reveals himself to Cesar, the Santos’ new leader, while assisting him with the repair of Oscar’s automobile, and he subsequently meets the rest of the group.
Benito Martinez has over 90 acting credits spanning the last 30 years, so it’d be odd if you hadn’t seen him before his turn in Netflix’s On My Block. Like Lil’ Ricky in On My Block, he regularly finds himself on the side of law enforcement or directly fighting it. The Shield’s LAPD captain David Aceveda, How To Get Away With Murder’s DA Todd Denver, and Sons of Anarchy’s Luis Torres are among his most well-known roles. Many people may recognise him as Sheriff Diaz from the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.
Martinez has several lesser-known roles in addition to his well-known characters, as he has appeared in so many shows and films. Gabriel Reyes, a character from the 9-1-1 spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star, was one of his minor parts in recent years. Benito Martinez has also appeared in a number of modest and supporting roles in films. He recently appeared in Queen & Slim as Sheriff Edgar and American Made as James Rangel.
Because he plays his crime-related characters so well, Benito Martinez has become a popular typecast actor for many crime shows. It’s presently unknown if he’ll reprise his role as Lil Ricky in the recently announced On My Block spinoff, Freeridge. Regardless of whether Lil Ricky appears in Freeridge or not, given his long list of film and television credits, this is unlikely to be the last time Benito Martinez appears on screen.
