Kim stated she shed 16 pounds in the weeks preceding up to the Met Gala in order to fit into the iconic gown. The beauty mogul reportedly walked up the stairs in her original attire before changing into a copy once she arrived at the party. “I’m tremendously mindful of the outfit and what it signifies to American history,” she had stated.
Kim, who walked the red carpet with her boyfriend Pete Davidson, continued, “I would never want to sit in it, dine in it, or have any chance of any damage to it, and I won’t be applying the kind of body cosmetics I usually do.” The dress was returned to the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Museum, which issued a statement when the dress was returned. “Great care was taken to preserve this piece of pop cultural history,” it added, but new reports disputed that statement.
Pop Culture recently revealed side-by-side photos of Kardashian wearing the gown before and after she wore it. According to reports, the dress’s back clasp displays indications of strained fabric and missing crystals in the after-photo.
Kim has been chastised for wearing the outfit in response to the tweet. “Leave it to Kim to damage a historical piece of art,” one Twitter user stated, while another added, “Kim should’ve never worn that outfit in the first place.” Yes, paying respect to Marilyn is lovely, but she could have had a new outfit designed and duplicated.
