Norma Monserrat Bustamante Laferte, was Mon Laferte’s name when she was born in Via del Mar (Chile). As a child, she remembers going with her grandmother to Valparaso tango clubs. She also credits her grandmother’s singing ability as one of her first musical influences.
When she was just 9 years old, she began her professional career and won a guitar at a singing contest. She was thirteen when she won a scholarship to Via del Mar’s musical academy. Shortly after, she began performing in bars in Valparaiso, Santiago, and later in Via del Mar.
Laferte gave up eating meat because of ethical and moral concerns. She no longer eats animal products as of 2017.
Professional Life of Mon Laferte
Singer, actress, and multi-instrumentalist from Chile who rose to fame with tracks such as “Tu Falta De Querer,” “Amor Completo,” and “Tormento.” She made her acting debut in the film Jappy Ending (2013) as Eli.
Laferte was previously known as Monserrat Bustanante. She participated in Rojo’s reality series in 2003. The following year, she released La Chica de Rojo her first studio album. Due to its immense success in Chile, the album was awarded both Gold and Platinum status.
She joined Clan Rojo, and continued to appear on the program for four seasons. Laferte decided to start a new stage in her musical career when she moved from Chile to Mexico City in 2007.
She began performing in nightclubs, and recorded cover songs. 2009 saw her release a single titled “Lo Mismo Que yo”, which was meant to be the first track on a studio album.

In real life, she goes by the name Norma Monserrat Bustamante Laferte. Solange Bustamante is her younger sister. Her body was diagnosed with carcinoma of the thyroid in 2009. She enrolled at Via del Mar Conservatory of Music in her thirteenth year. Later, she began her career performing in Valparaiso pubs.
