Bodenstedt had given more than $400,000 to Trump’s reelection campaign since January 2019, according to Federal Election Commission records, including $200,000 provided on March 12, only days before eateries in the United States began to close as a result of COVID-19. However, owning a franchise is not the same as owning a business.
Many people who used the #WendysIsOverParty hashtag assumed Penegor was the one who made the donations. He didn’t do it.
Wendy’s announced on Twitter on June 3, “We have never contributed to a presidential campaign and will never do so. For the record, our CEO has always maintained the same level of enthusiasm. Facts.”
Greg Creed is the CEO of Yum! Brands, the business that owns the Pizza Hut and Taco Bell brands.
Since June 2019, Creed has donated $9,880 to the company’s PAC, according to FEC data. In the 2020 election year, the PAC donated $60,200 to Democratic and Republican candidates.
