Rowdy Harrell: William “Rowdy” Harrell, a pit crew worker for Hendrick Motorsports, was killed in a car accident. Harrell, 30, and his wife, Blakley Harrell, 23, were murdered in a head-on automobile crash on Tuesday night while on their honeymoon in the Florida Keys.
On Wednesday, Hendrick Motorsports issued a statement confirming the devastating news.

“Team member William ‘Rowdy’ Harrell and his wife, Blakley, were tragically murdered in a vehicle accident in Florida last night,” Hendrick Motorsports stated in a statement. “The newlyweds were on their way to enjoy their honeymoon after their wedding on Saturday.”
“For the last eight seasons, Harrell, 30, has been a standout tire carrier for Hendrick Motorsports, most recently with driver Alex Bowman’s No. 88 NASCAR Cup Series squad,” the statement read. “With JR Motorsports, he was also a two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series champion pit crew member.”
“He was the heart and soul of our team,” Hendrick Motorsports wrote in a tweet, referring to the linked statement.

According to NBC Sports, Harrell was traveling north on a two-lane highway, according to a preliminary investigation from the Florida Highway Patrol. His car crossed the center line and into the southbound lane around 9:40 p.m. ET.
A pickup truck attempted to avoid colliding with Harrell’s car by driving onto the shoulder, but both vehicles crashed.
The 62-year-old truck driver was transferred to a neighboring hospital with minor injuries. The occupants in the truck, a 58-year-old woman and a 62-year-old woman, were seriously injured and were taken to the ho
spital in critical condition.
All drivers and passengers wore seatbelts.

“The loss of Rowdy and Blakley has left our entire team devastated. They were so happy, giving, and passionate people,” said Greg Ives, Harrell’s crew chief for the past six seasons. “Rowdy had an upbeat and contagious personality.
He was our team’s heart and soul, and he constantly kept us motivated, no matter what. The people around him loved rowdy because he shared his affection with them.”
“Although he will be profoundly missed, his memory will continue to inspire us forever,” Ives concluded in his statement. Rowdy, Blakley, and their amazing family are in our thoughts and prayers.”
Harrell, a former University of Alabama football middle linebacker, also got condolences from his alma university. The Alabama football team stated, “Rowdy Harrell was a tremendous teammate and friend.” “During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. “Roll Tide, Rowdy,” says the crowd.

“Rowdy was everything that made the 88 squads, the 88 teams,” NASCAR driver Alex Bowman wrote beside a photo of himself and Harrell on Twitter.

Messages of condolences also flooded in for his wife. On Facebook, Beau Reve, a hair shop in North Carolina where she works, expressed their sympathy.
“It is with tremendous grief that we must inform you of our stylist Blakley Harrell’s passing,” their statement read. “To lose such a wonderful spirit so quickly has been upsetting to the crew here at Beau Reve Salon.”
“Blakley will be remembered for the rest of his life. On the outside, she was stunning, but on the inside, she was even more so. She was gifted, caring, and considerate. With her gone, the salon will never be the same.”
On Monday, Nov. 23, two days after the wedding, Harrell shared photos from the event.
