Sophia Cheung an Instagram sensation from Hong Kong sadly fell to her death while taking a selfie by a waterfall after slipping.

Sophia Cheung, 32, and her 3 companions left for Ha Pak Lai park at around 11 a.m. on Saturday. After the park’s Pineapple Mountain location, a popular spot for hikers at dusk, the influencer had decided to take selfies at the edge of a waterfall when she reportedly lost her footing and plummeted into the 16-foot pool below.
Cheung’s startled companions immediately dialed emergency services, who quickly showed up and rushed the woman to the hospital, where the Sun reports that she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The adventurous lady routinely shared photos of herself posing on the precipices of tall cliffs to her Instagram account, along with the tagline, “Life should be fun not dumb.”
Cheung was pictured clutching a boogie board while sitting in the surf in her final Instagram photo, which was posted on July 9. Better Days are on the way, it said in the caption. Sunday and Saturday are their names.
Since then, the eerie image has received a deluge of condolences, with one grieving admirer commenting, “RIP don’t want to believe this happened to you.”
Thought brighter days were approaching when Saturday and Sunday?’ complained another. I’m going to miss our daily chat. I will always love you. My sweet Sofi, may you rest in peace.
Cheung is not the first person to pass away after taking a foolish photo. An Indian woman died last January after taking a picture next to a waterfall and falling to her death.
And in a terrifying event last year, a woman from Kazakhstan died after falling more than 100 feet off a cliff in Turkey while posing for a picture to mark the end of the local coronavirus lockdown.
