On his new track Mr. Right Now, God’s Plan singer John Francis, 33, revealed he’d been romantically involved with fellow artist SZA, 29, back in the day.
On the track, which also features 21 Savage and Metro Boomin, Canadian singer-rapper Drake rapped: ‘Yes she said she wanna f**k to some SZA, wait.’ She continued by saying: ‘Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08 / If you cool with it baby, she can still play.’
Some fans questioned SZA’s assertion that they had been together in 2008, since unless it occurred during the last seven weeks of that year, SZA would have been 17 and underage.
However, SZA has since come out to confirm their relationship and correct Drake about their age; according to her, it was actually 2009 they were together instead of 2008 as Drake claims.
Tweeting her 3.6 million followers, she set the record straight by admitting he’d got the year wrong.
“So it was actually 2009,” she wrote, “the year that poetic rap license mattered! If anyone who knows me and was around during that time can confirm, it was all love and peace back then!”

SZA followed up the clarification with a promise that nothing ‘underage or creepy’ had taken place, which put many minds at ease.
She continued, ‘I just didn’t want anyone to think anything underage or creepy was taking place – everything was completely innocent – this was lifetimes ago’.
At the time, Drake was 18 and SZA corrected herself to say she too. Thus, it appears they were both consenting adults of similar age – thus ending any ongoing discussion in that particular saga.

In 2017, SZA and Drake were photographed together while SZA promoted her album Ctrl in Drake’s hometown of Toronto – yet it was unknown if they had ever actually been romantically involved.
Drake had previously been romantically linked to Rihanna several years ago and most recently 24-year-old Dutch model Imaan Hammam earlier this year after they were photographed together multiple times during New York Fashion Week.
2020 has seen Drake collaborate with Future on Life is Good and Desires, their second collaboration. Since then, he’s released When to Say When and Chicago Freestyle as well as Toosie Slide, Greece & Popstar with DJ Khaled, plus Laugh Now Cry Later featuring Lil Durk ahead of their upcoming album Certified Lover Boy due out towards the end of this year.
