Tony Romo is facing backlash over a comment he made about Tom Brady’s wife, Gisele Bündchen, during the “NFL on CBS” broadcast.
On Sunday, the Buccaneers had to track down Brady’s 600th touchdown ball, which wide receiver Mike Evans unknowingly gave to a fan.
As a Tampa Bay staffer negotiated with the fan, Romo pretended to narrate the exchange on the broadcast.
“A date with Gisele. A date with Gisele and I’m in,” Romo said, acting as the fan.
“OK, Tom will do it. One time, you got it,” Romo continued, pretending to voice the Bucs official.
Fans took issue with the comment, and roasted Romo on social media.
“Tony Romo suggesting Brady trade a date with his wife for his 600th TD ball is just weird/borderline creepy. Dude is a good broadcaster but so awkward sometimes,” one person tweeted.
“I don’t think what Romo said was funny. It was tasteless. But that’s just me,” another fan wrote.
More fans continued to call out Romo, along with CBS for airing the commentary.
“Why do we need to listen to @tonyromo fantasize about trading a football for ‘a day with Giselle’? What does Mr. Romo presume would happen with Gisele during that day she has been traded like property for a football?” one Twitter user asked.
Brady did indeed get back the 600th touchdown ball, and made sure the fan was compensated well for giving it up.
The Buccaneers reportedly gifted the fan a signed jersey and a helmet from Brady, an autographed Mike Evans jersey and the WR’s game cleats, a $1,000 credit for the team store and two passes for the rest of the 2021 season and next season, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Brady also sweetened the deal by giving the fan a bitcoin, worth about $63,000, the QB revealed on the “Monday Night Football” Manningcast.
