On Wednesday, the much-anticipated Varisu trailer was made public amid much fanfare. Director Vamshi Paidipally, who plays Vijay in the main role of Varisu, has taken a traditional approach to making this family drama. The trailer opens with a shot showing a wealthy family. The family is enjoying a meal together and it looks beautiful. However, not everything is perfect. Vijay plays the role of Vijay, the patriarch of the family.
Our hero isn’t trying to fit in and so stands out. It could also cause conflict within the family. Vijay may be different than his brothers. Vijay is a veteran backpacker, and has been blessed with plenty of money to travel the beautiful country’s diverse culture. The prodigal son comes back to rescue the family when an enemy outsider attacks the family.
Vamshi’s faith in the material is evident in the trailer’s confident and unhurried tone. He could have made the trailer less dramatic and filled it with more moments that honored Vijay’s bigger-than-life persona. Perhaps that is what the fans wanted. However, this would have been a disservice for the audience. The trailer is intended to capture the imagination and give an idea of the film’s mood, pace, and flavour. The trailer should tell the audience what lies ahead. It could end up looking worse than the film, which would be unfortunate. You may also read: Bigg Boss 5 Tamil
Varisu is an unapologetic, old-school family drama. This genre has a lot of stars like Vijay. He achieved his success by promoting family values and performing single-leg flying kicks. Varisu seems to have a lot of both these things.
You don’t have to be disappointed if you didn’t like the trailer for Varisu. Surprises could be in store for the movie. Vijay’s most memorable films are not those in which he plays an unbeaten hero. They are dramas about family relationships.
His 1996 film Poove Unakkaga is an example. Vijay was the man who brokered peace between warring families in order to allow the woman of his dreams, to unify with her lover. Kadhalukku Mariyadhai sees him sacrifice his chance to marry his love to preserve the family’s sentiments. Minsara Kanna is about Vijay and his family going above and beyond to win approval from his big sister. Priyamanavale tells the story of a US-trained, wealthy brat who falls in love with Indian culture. He also learns to appreciate traditional family values. Vijay again plays the hero in Vaseegara. He puts family ahead of his chance at true love.
These blockbuster films are the most important in Vijay’s career. They have played a major role in establishing his star status for all ages. Vijay might have felt a special connection to Varisu because films like these made him the superstar he is today. This is his second film and he may pull off a Pongal miracle at box office.
