Unfortunately, Shorter took his final breath on Thursday, March 1, 2023 in Los Angeles after having made waves on the music scene since 1950 – being recognized for shaping much of jazz music throughout the 20th century with performances alongside legends like Miles Davis, Carlos Santana, and Herbie Hancock among many others. On Thursday morning, Wayne Shorter was surrounded by his family when he passed away. His publicist confirmed the tragic news on social media, prompting many to pay tribute and offer deep condolences to his family members as they grieve for their beloved.

Herbie Hancock took to his twitter account to pay him tribute: “Wayne Shorter, my best friend, left us with courage in his heart, love and compassion for all, as well as an eager spirit towards his rebirth – irreplaceable”.

As with every human being, Herbie Hancock wrote on: “Wayne Shorter left us with courage in his heart, love and compassion towards others – making him truly unforgettable”.

What was Wayne Shorter death cause?

Wayne Shorter was born on August 25, 1933 in Newark, New Jersey and attended Newark Arts High School until 1952, where he graduated.

As a teenager he took up the viola after his father encouraged him to do so. Additionally, his older brother Alan played alto saxophone before switching to trumpet during college.

Wayne Shorter began performing in Newark with the Nat Phipps Band while still in high school. Following graduation from New York University with a degree in music teaching in 1956, Shorter served two years in the U.S. Army and briefly collaborated with Horace Silver before joining Maynard Ferguson after being released from service.

Australian singer Tal Wilkenfield shared, “My favorite musician has left this earthly plane. The lessons I learned from @Wayne_Shorter in our time together are immeasurable & profound – I will miss him so much. Sending all my love & blessings to his wife Carolina”.
