Early Life
Linnethia Monique Johnson was born in Queens, New York on December 13, 1967, as one of five children. At 16 years old, Nene Leakes net worth and one brother were sent to live with an aunt in Athens, Georgia because their mother could no longer care for all five; their other three siblings remained with their mother in Queens. Nene began modeling right after high school graduation from Clarke Central High School in Athens before attending Morris Brown College for two years in Atlanta.
Career
Leakes made her television debut in 2008 on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Throughout its seven seasons, she wrote an autobiography with author Denene Millner called “Never Make the Same Mistake Twice,” detailing her life from childhood until then. However, in June 2015 she announced she would not return for season 8; however, she did appear in a supporting role that season. Finally, Leakes returned to the show again for its 10th season in 2017!
Nene also appeared on “The Celebrity Apprentice.” On the 10th episode of her season on “The Apprentice,” Nene decided enough was enough and left the show after experiencing too much drama and tension between herself and fellow contestant Star Jones.

Personal Life
Nene married Gregg Leakes in 1997 and they have two sons, Brentt and Brice.
Gregg Leakes passed away in September 2021 at the age of 66 from colon cancer. A real estate investor, he had five children from a previous relationship: twins Damien and Daryl, Katrina, Dexter, and Denton. On season three of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” Nene made the decision to file for divorce; their separation was final in 2011.
However, over subsequent seasons Nene and Gregg Rekindled their romance before declaring it official again in January 2013. After months of preparations, they announced their engagement again that same month; Nene and Gregg got engaged again shortly afterward at InterContinental Buckhead Hotel in Atlanta where Bravo filmed their wedding planning as well as a ceremony for “I Dream of Nene: The Wedding.”
