When Does George Die: That’s right: “McDreamy” isn’t the only deceased character brought back for Season 17 of “Grey’s Anatomy.” In Thursday’s episode, George O’Malley (T.R. Knight), who died after being hit by a bus during Season 5, emerged in one of Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) COVID-19-induced purgatory-like visions.

When Does George Die

During her COVID-19 illness, Meredith encounters him on the same beach where she saw Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). George informs her that she has wonderful children and that “if I could, I would have stayed.”

The two were housemates, one-time lovers, and surgical residents together, but audiences liked them for their camaraderie.

After being hit by a bus, George died in the Season 5 finale just as he was ready to join the army. He ran in front of the bus to save the life of someone else.

Meredith was the first to realize the patient brought to the hospital was George; he scribbled “007” on her palm with his finger to identify himself, a nickname he gained after botching his first appendectomy.

Throughout the episode, George and Meredith discuss anything from Meredith’s and his fellow interns’ inability to stop laughing at his funeral (which made him happy) to sadness in general.

Apart from Meredith’s hallucinations, her mentor Richard (James Pickens, Jr.) must decide whether or not to enroll her in a clinical trial to save her life.

“It might shatter him if you stay here,” George warns Meredith. After hearing her mutter George’s name, Richard decides to put her on trial.

Meredith remembered George’s selflessness. “George, you altered my life. I didn’t say that at the time, but it is true now, “she explains.

It seems to be a reference to Meredith’s final voiceover in Season 5 — a disturbing one for longtime viewers: “‘Did you say something?’ I’m in love with you. Never be without to live. Did you say, ‘You transformed my life?'”

During a panel earlier this year, Pompeo previewed the start of the next season with three keywords: “Hold on, girl.” “This season, we’re bringing it,” she added. “Hang in there. It’ll happen.”

Dempsey, who has played “McDreamy” for almost ten seasons, made a surprise appearance at the end of Season 17’s debut on November 12.

Meredith Daydream about George and stayed at Parking Garage many thought infected with Corona

Meredith had passed out in the parking garage. It was unknown why, but given that Grey-Sloan Memorial had become a COVID-19 center and cared for infected patients, all indicators led to her having COVID-19.

She returned to her beach daydream – which may or may not has been a daydream – to hear Derek screaming her name. Derek reappeared in another episode the following week.
