Lindsay Clancy, 32, was a registered nurse working in a local hospital. She was married to Patrick Clancy, a software engineer. They had three children together: Cora was five, Dawson three and Callan eight months. They lived in a spacious home located in Duxbury Massachusetts a wealthy suburb south of Boston.

Lindsay was known for being a loving and nurturing mother who cherished her three children dearly. She often posted photos of them together on social media to capture their happy moments together, showing their closeness. Lindsay and her husband also enjoyed an amicable relationship; his GoFundMe page even described Lindsay as his “best friend and soulmate”.

Lindsay had long struggled with anxiety. Following the birth of her second child, she had been diagnosed with postpartum depression and prescribed medication. Additionally, she experienced insomnia and panic attacks.

On January 24, 2023 – the day before Lindsay was killed – it appeared she was having one of her “best days.” She took Cora for an appointment with a pediatrician where nothing seemed wrong; then built a snowman with Cora and Dawson in their backyard before texting pictures to her mother and husband; all were smiling and content.

But something snapped in Lindsay’s mind after her husband left to procure some children’s medicine and food. She went into her basement with three of her children and used exercise bands to strangle each of them individually before heading outside in an attempt to kill herself by cutting her throat with a knife.

Patrick returned home and found his wife lying covered in blood in their backyard, calling 911 while racing into their basement where all three children had died – on which call, Patrick could be heard screaming in agony and shock as he attempted to find help for his loved ones.

Cora and Dawson were declared deceased at the hospital that night; Callan passed three days later after being removed from life support.

Lindsay survived her suicide attempt and was admitted to a hospital, before being charged with two counts of murder and three counts of suffocation or strangulation by video link on February 7 from her hospital bed. On behalf of Lindsay she entered a plea of not guilty.

Prosecutors contend that Lindsay took deliberate and intentional actions when she killed her children. They assert that Lindsay could have changed her mind at any point during the killings but did not. Furthermore, they dispute Lindsay’s attorney’s assertions that Lindsay was overmedicated with antidepressants or other psychiatric medications and had become “zombified.”

Lindsay’s lawyer claims she was suffering from a serious mental illness that affected her judgment and ability to control her impulses, adding that Lindsay loved her children dearly and could not comprehend why she had done what she had.

Lindsay is currently being held without bail pending his probable cause hearing on March 9, which will take place.
