What Happened To Summer Wells?
Summer, who would be 6 years old now, was last seen at her family’s house along Ben Hill Road in the Beech Creek neighbourhood of Hawkins County, Tennessee, at 6:30 p.m. on June 15, 2021. According to her family, she was going to the basement to play with her toys.
Don Well, her father, thought she had been kidnapped. The following day, an Amber Alert was sent out for her as a result of that. Don Wells addresses a letter to the ‘kidnappers’ of Summer.
The letter was revealed on Tuesday and was written “To the person, or persons responsible.” Don Well, who is presently in jail for violating his probation on charges unconnected to his daughter’s disappearance, is currently in jail.
Reads the letter:
“To the person or people who abducted Summer, not only have you destroyed her chances of getting an education and destroyed her life, but you have also crushed Summer’s heart and torn her away from her mother and father, who adore her.
In the midst of all the chaos, you destroyed our lives in addition to breaking the hearts of her mother, father, and brothers. You see, they hold us accountable. We might never work again, I don’t know. My wife is unemployed, and I was fired from a position I had had for 13 years. We might lose everything in the end.
“You took our very life when you kidnapped our young girl.
Why don’t you return our young girl before God’s vengeance falls upon you?
“You’ve hurt a lot of people’s hearts, especially the heart of an innocent 5-year-old girl. If you don’t make amends, God will one day hold you accountable for this crime.
“Would you kindly turn over our daughter to the police as is proper? With all of our hearts, we beg you. Please do the correct action.
“Summer’s father” has signed the letter.
Why is Don Wells imprisoned?
Her father was detained for having a pistol while intoxicated two months prior to Summer Wells going missing. He received a sentence of just over a year for the arrest on April 21, 2021.
Only 55 days after that, Summer would vanish. On October 30, 137 days later, her father Don would experience difficulties once more, this time for DUI.
Because he was on probation at the time, the judge was compelled to send him to jail for breaking the terms of his probation even though the judge acknowledged that this was his first DUI offence.
When Don will be released is unknown. His punishment will be reevaluated every 30 days, according to family, and should be completed in 90 days.
The search for Summer Wells is “extremely active and ongoing.”
Ronnie Lawson, the sheriff of Hawkins County, and Leslie Earhart, the spokeswoman for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, conducted a press conference on the day that marked one year since Summer Wells vanished. They thought back to the beginning of the case.
Earhart claimed that the TBI sent out an Amber Alert the day after Summer vanished. Within 24 hours of that alarm, she said, investigators had hoped to have encouraging news. Instead, frustration and despair marked the end of each day, according to Earhart. Nobody anticipated that we would still be looking for summer a year later at the moment.
She claimed that there were very few leads in this case, and every avenue is still being considered. The case has so far consumed thousands of man hours. More than 100 TBI agents, analysts, and professionals have searched social media accounts, digital evidence, and physical evidence gathered through search warrants.
They have also carried out countless targeted ground searches in addition to three significant large-scale ground searches. Numerous follow-up calls and emails have been made in addition to more than 170 official interviews.
Authorities have sorted through tens of thousands of tips, but claim that the search has been hampered by erroneous leads brought on by online speculation and those looking to cash in on Summer’s abduction. Some people, according to her, have even been requesting donations for her and her family, but they have never been delivered.
