The Ultimate Guide to Ear Piercings

Ear piercingsEar piercings Customers have been able to create their own constellations of piercings through a variety of services, including in-home and virtual styling sessions.

Maria Tash doesn’t think piercings are anything new.

Ms Tash is a designer of fine jewellery and has been making earrings for pierced ears ever since 1993 when she opened a New York studio in East Village. In recent years, she has also created adornments to fit many other pierced parts, as she has opened shops around the world.

She wrote, “What is most surprising to me” in an email. “It’s the pent-up demand we saw during a pandemic,” and she added that the brand was hosting virtual styling sessions online.

“We discovered that people need the creative outlet and shared our dreams and plans for future tattoos,” Ms Tash stated. “I was worried that mask-wearing and elastic loops around the cartilage would discourage cures, but thankfully this was not the case,” she said. And now that the stores are reopened, she explained that some appointments can be booked months ahead.

Many women and men seem to crave ornamentation, particularly multiple piercings in their ears, creating their own constellations of twinkling earrings.

Ms Tash pioneered the concept of curated ears. She used the appendage to create an artistic arrangement of jewellery, which becomes a form of self-expression. The ears are now the centre of attention, even though half of the face is often covered by a mask.

According to Frederic Godart (sociologist, and associate professor at Insead’s business school in France), the trend is part of society’s focus on personal space.

Ear piercings He said that tattoos and piercings are no longer seen as something reserved for gangsters or sailors.

“There has been an ongoing process of legitimation,” Mr Godart stated. “And when that happens it spreads across social classes which leads to the availability of superior services with higher hygiene standards. A niche can be created if there is a demand from the upper classes.

Nawal Laoui (founder and owner of Persee), a Paris-based jewellery brand, was eager to fill this niche, just like Ms Tash. She stated, “We wanted the piercing to be rediscovered, to revive it and make it more elegant, valuable, and contemporary.”

Persee’s “bar a Piercing” opened in October between Paris national lockdowns. It was located in the Galeries Lafayette department shop on the Champs Elysees. The pop-up service was initially intended to be temporary, but it quickly became a regular fixture. The brand also provided an in-home service for those locked out of the city.

Customers can use the “ear map” to guide them.

She said that the classic, three holes in the lobe, is still the most preferred choice. “And then, people gradually go up the ear. They will, for instance, make a fourth cut in the cartilage if they feel reassured.

Galeries Lafayette’s service is only for the ears. However, Ms Laoui stated that more people are asking for nose and navel piercings.

Persee was introduced by Ms Laoui in late 2017. It was the result of her desire for jewellery that could be worn every day. She said, “Skin jewellery so light that we forget we are wearing it, but with a certain singularity.” “And that’s when the idea for the piercing was born.”

For a single 18-karat hoop in gold, the price is 160 Euros (about $195). Styles with diamonds will cost more than EUR1,000. The cost of the piercing is included in the purchase of an earring. Ms. Laoui stated, “It’s a chance that creates another opportunity.” Women see a piece that they love and a piercer is available. Sometimes they choose to have not one, but three holes.

Camelia Jordana (28), a French singer and actress, has had lobe piercings since childhood. But, since discovering the Persee piercing bars, she now has four per ear. In an email, she said that jewellery is now an integral part of her everyday look. They are elegant and very sensual. They can be worn with casual or more formal attire.

She stated that she doesn’t take the earrings out and that she likes the fact she can wear them while she sleeps. Persee studs are flat-screw-like, and the hinges on the earrings close with a latch.

Ms Jordana loves the Persee gold hoop with a delicate diamond-encrusted chain. She says it is both versatile and dreamy. She adds the Orbite, a statement piece with a dangling Diamant and double hoop, to make it stand out.

Persee launched the Qatar piercing service before international borders were closed in February 2020. “It was difficult because women in the Middle East are veiled and I was curious if they would like to have their ears punctured,” Ms Laoui stated. It was a huge hit in Qatar, where women could get up to eight piercings per ear.

She plans to open salons in Paris and Qatar this year.

These chic piercing salons are popping up all over New York, London, and other cities. However, the type of piercing is a reflection of the culture. Tokyo is home to a lot of earlobe piercings. However, piercings in the ear areas are still associated with certain subcultures. However, the look is becoming more popular in Seoul, South Korea thanks to K-pop stars.

Marie Gilliot (35), a Paris-based fashion blogger, had a piercing done in her right ear’s outer rim at Maria Tash back in 2008. She was a model in New York. She now has eight piercings. Most of her piercings since then have been done at Mad Lords in Paris. She said that eight was her lucky number and she would continue there.

She stated that she liked the edgy look.
