Rey Mysterio, known by his ring name Rey Mysterio, is an American professional wrestler signed to WWE’s Raw brand. Despite his small stature, Mysterio has earned a reputation for being one of the highest-flying in-ring performers ever.
On December 11th, 1974, Rey Mysterio was born into a professional wrestling family. Their uncle Rey Misterio Sr. had been an accomplished champion of this sport and later turned trainer for Rey as he took his initial steps toward professional status. With guidance from Rey Sr., Rey became one of professional wrestling’s brightest stars.
Rey Mysterio Early Life
Oscar Gutierrez was born on December 11, 1974 in Chula Vista, California. While Mysterio began his education at Montgomery High School, his passion and sport of choice is wrestling; at 14 years old he joined the prestigious U.S. squad.
He began his wrestling training with his uncle Rey Misterio Sr, where he not only learned the sport’s skills but also how to become a professional wrestler.
By 1991, Mysterio had earned himself the title of “Most Improved Wrestler” in Mexico by wrestling under the name Colibri. Later renamed Rey Mysterio Jr. after learning this name from his uncle during that initial period of wrestling.
Career
He has participated in a wide range of fights and won numerous titles throughout his career. In 1999, he unmasked himself and joined No Limit Soldiers and Filthy Animals; when WCW closed down, he joined Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre before traveling across Puerto Rico for participation in the World Wrestling Council.
Rey Mysterio signed with World Wrestling Entertainment and donned his mask once again. In July of that same year he made his WWE debut against Chavo Guerrero on SmackDown! and won his first Cruiserweight Championship by defeating Matt Hardy. Unfortunately for Rey, his contract with WWE was terminated in February 2015 and he then signed a new AAA deal.

Rey Mysterio lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma with his wife Angie and two kids: Dominic’s son Principe and Aaliyah. She comes from a wrestling family that includes his uncle Rey Misterio Sr. as well as cousins El Hijo de Rey Misterio and Metallica.
Mysterio has inked the names of his entire family onto his body, while even former best friend Eddie Guererro has ‘EG’ tattooed across his chest. A devout Roman Catholic, Mysterio is known for his decal-adorned armpits.
