Jungle Jim
“Funny drag racing” refers to the unique cars. However, the main focus of the show is still speed and car handling. To keep the fans’ interest, there was also a performative element. It was a little like professional wrestling. They were extremely showy. Jungle Pam and other women highlighted the’sex appeal. People came to her every week to get a glimpse, and to witness Jungle Jim’s incredible burnouts.
Russell James Liberman, better known as “Jungle Jim”, was a legend on the funny car racing circuit. After dropping out of highschool, he began drag racing and was the local hero in drag racing. Quote: “Jim was a king, a hard-ass driver and a great showman!” This reminds me a lot of Rebel Without a Cause. Jungle Jim was a highly skilled driver who made a name in the sport. His backward driving skills, and his epic burnouts were what made him famous. Jungle Jim’s blue Vega is still a favorite memory. It was a beautiful ride.
Jungle Pam
Pamela Hardy, also known as “Jungle Pam”, was a drag racing superstar. Although she wasn’t a driver, her passion for drag racing was evident. She made sure the car was correctly positioned and did everything she could to help Jim win and She was also absolutely breathtaking. She was a major figure in funny car racing. How did they meet?
Unusual Partnership: Jungle Pam
Jim was driving in their hometown of West Chester Pennsylvania on a May evening when he saw Pam walking towards the mall. He thought she was beautiful and invited her to a party. Pam was just eighteen years old at the time, and was about to graduate high school. Jim shared with her his story of racing drag cars and she was intrigued.
The sport was new to her. Jim asked her if she would like to accompany him at his next event. He amazed that she had taken an interest in the sport. Pam was astonished by what she saw. Pam was astonished by the colorful people and brightly painted cars that were built in ways she’d never seen before.
She dropped out of college to join Jungle Jim’s Racing Team. This caused tension between Pam, her mother and herself. Pam was accepted to West Chester State. She had intended to study business. Her mother wasn’t happy with her funny car lifestyle but they did eventually reconcile. Pam was assigned to the initial task of placing Jungle Jim’s car at the start line.
She did this with great flair. While doing this, she wore the most hip and often very skimpy clothes. Pam was not content to be a drag racing superstar. She was determined to learn everything she could about drag racing and funny cars. Pam was quickly able to learn the ropes thanks to the help of Jungle Jim, a skilled instructor.
Soon, she given additional responsibilities. She was responsible for checking under the cars as they approached the start line. This ensured that everything was in good condition for the race. She packed the parachute, checked that the engine was properly oiled and maintained it.
Pam quickly established her signature look
a transparent top and no bra. Pam was blessed to have a large breast and knew how to show it off. Jim may have slammed the brakes so hard all those years ago. Pam said that she did not wear bras because they were uncomfortable. These revealing clothes were essential for keeping cool on hot asphalt. Jungle Pam, however, was not fooled and knew exactly what her outfits meant for Jungle Jim’s team publicity and the sport as a whole. People began to attend drag racing events in an attempt to see the famous Jungle Pam. It catapulted Jungle Jim up the ranks.
Pam didn’t realise how much she loved but wasn’t afraid to shine. Jim and Pam were waiting at the airport to catch their flight. A fan saw them and ran up to Pam to ask for autographs. Pam was shocked to see her face, as she was championing the cover for the racing magazine. It was then that she realized she was a sex icon that was beginning define a decade. Jungle Jim and Jungle Pam were the most well-known couple in funny car drag, but they weren’t making much money. Sponsorship deals were not lucrative because the sport was too niche. They barely had enough to pay rent for their home. The couple also had their share of hard times. Jim was not always loyal to Pam. They continued to patch things up because Pam wanted the rest of her life to be with her high-speed Jungle Partner.
Jungle Jim had even intended to retire from drag racing to open his own engine repair shop. But, unforeseen circumstances prevented this from happening.
The Crash: Jungle Pam
The dynamic duo Jungle Pam/Jungle Jim ended in 1977 when Jim Liberman died in a car accident. He was speeding around a curve and collided with a bus, entangling his car underneath the bus’s front. Jim was rescued by first responders almost an hour after he crashed into the transit bus.
To make matters worse, the accident occurred just two days prior to his 32nd birthday. The news broke to the entire funny car world. Jim was loved by a large number of his loyal fans. Pam’s Later Years
Jungle Pam’s mom was the one to tell her about Jim’s terrible accident. She was obviously devastated.
Pam did not work with any other driver in funny car racing because she loved Jim. She quit drag racing. Although she does make occasional appearances at conventions as Jungle Pam, she still loves the world and funny car drag racing. She believes that the drag scene without Jim or Pam is less interesting. The comedy car drag scene has never been the same.
Pam was a different person after Jim’s death. She had a difficult time with relationships and she wasn’t the same Pam. Two different funny car racing men were her husbands. Fred Fray was her first husband. He was a funny-car owner. She later divorced him and married Bill Hodgson, a funny-car mechanic. Pam Hardy, 64, is a quiet person today. However, it is quiet when compared to the high-speed drag racing scene, which transformed a high school student into an amazing Jungle Phenomenon.
Funny car racing will always remember Jungle Jim and Jungle Pam. They were the ones who introduced a lot more people to this sport that was not yet well-known. Let’s celebrate the duo.
