Cindy McClellan, Carter’s mother, told Fox News on Saturday that her son was recording a music video in Houston, Texas, when a revolver in his pocket “went off and caught my son in the corner of his eye.”
McClellan described him as a “great artist.” “We’re trying to keep his legend [alive] because he was the voice, the entire package.”

Dixie and Kaylee, Carter’s two young kids, are left behind.
According to McClellan, the family has set up a GoFundMe to fund funeral expenses as well as the cost of transporting Carter’s remains from Houston to San Antonio for burial.
Carter served in the United States Army, according to her, but she is unsure if he fits the requirements for a military burial at this time.
McClellan said, “He was a beautiful person, very loving, and he loved our God very much.”
“He kept a Bible in his room, the den, and even his truck. He donated to several charities.”
Carter was preparing to embark on a 10-state tour, according to McClellan, after just completing a deal with Triple Threat Management.

“He really loved music, he was incredibly gifted, and by God, his voice was magnificent,” McClellan said, adding that Carter wanted to “take care of his family” through music.
Fans were told of the awful news via a message on his Facebook page.
