Police Chief: 6-year-old Taken Into Custody After Virginia Teacher Shoots (Latest News)

Police Chief have taken a 6-year-old boy into custody following Friday’s shooting of a teacher at Richneck Elementary school in Newport News, Virginia.

“The person is a 6-year-old student. Drew stated that he is currently in police custody. “We have been in touch with our commonwealth lawyer and other entities to ensure that we provide the best services for this young man.”

Drew state that the female teacher, who is in her 30s, was shot inside a classroom. He also said that it was not accidental.

According to the police chief, there was an altercation between the teacher, who was carrying the gun, and the student. Only one round was fire.

Drew had previously stated that the teacher was in critical but that her injuries were life-threatening. However, Drew said that Friday night’s update showed that there had been some improvement.

The Police Chief stated that there were no other students involve

He said that the investigation was ongoing

“We’ll do the investigation, there are questions we want to ask and learn more about. Drew said that Drew wanted to know more about Drew’s situation and where the firearm was from.

According to Dr. George Parker, Superintendent of Newport News Public Schools, Richneck Elementary School will close Monday.

Parker stated that he was in shock and “disappointed” during Friday’s news conference. “We must educate our children, and keep them safe.

The superintendent stated that “we need the community’s continued support to ensure that guns are not accessible to youth.”

Parker said that officials are also investigating any previous incidents that might have occurred before the shooting.
