David Cassidy Death: David Bruce Cassidy, an American actor, singer, and composer, was also a guitarist. He was born on April 12, 1950, and died on November 21, 2017. He was most famous for his performance as Keith Partridge in The Partridge Family, a musical comedy series that aired in the 1970s.

David Cassidy Death Cause

According to a new documentary, David Cassidy, who was 67 years old when he died in November, claimed that his collapse onstage at the end of February 2017 was due to Alzheimer’s disease. He actually died from organ failure due to alcoholism.

On Monday, A&E will air The Last Session with David Cassidy. Cassidy, Cassidy’s mother with Alzheimer’s, said in the moving two-hour film that “I did it myself to cover up my sadness and emptiness.”

There are no symptoms that I have dementia at this stage in my life. It was like getting drunk. The truth is, I lied about how much I had drunk. Problem drinking is not just a problem for those in the entertainment industry.

Cassidy’s tragic story highlights how important it is for that business to maintain a positive public image. However, people of Cassidy age are more likely become alcoholics. Harry Haroutunian, the author of Being Sober, states that 17% of Americans over 60 are struggling with alcohol or drugs, while only 10% of Americans overall have these problems.

Recent research published in JAMA Psychiatry showed that high-risk drinkers over 64 are at least twice as likely to have problems with drugs or alcohol than the general population. And that number is increasing. The number of people 65 years and older who have an alcohol-related disorder has increased by 107% between 2001 and 2013.

Cassidy’s case was also influenced by the fact that Cassidy had a father, Jack Cassidy (actor and singer), who was an alcoholic. He claims that he witnessed Jack consume 15 Scotch and sodas simultaneously in the documentary.

Cassidy’s 1994 memoir, “C’mon, Get Happy”, stated that Jack tried to improve his career prospects by seducing Cole Porter. Jack was admitted to hospital because of his bipolar disorder. After a night of drinking, Jack set fire to his Naugahyde couch with his cigarette and died.

Cassidy is the son of Jack Cassidy, a singer and actor, and Evelyn Ward. He was born at the Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in New York City. Both of his parents work in the entertainment business.

His paternal grandfather was half Irish and half German, while his maternal grandmother was mostly Colonial American, with some Swiss, Irish, and Swiss blood. His maternal grandparents were among the first to settle the area that would become Newark.

Cassidy’s Career

Cassidy made his professional debut on January 2, 1969 in The Fig Leaves Are Falling. This musical performed on Broadway.

After four performances, the run cut but Cassidy’s performance noticed by a casting director who invited Cassidy to submit a screen-test. He moved to Los Angeles in 1969 after he had already made a complete change in his life.

Cassidy was first cast in 1970 as Keith Partridge in the musical comedy The Partridge Family. It premiered the following year. After demonstrating his singing abilities, Cassidy was offered the chance to sing in the studio group as the lead singer.

He and Shirley Jones, the only two members of the television cast who appear on any Partridge Family CDs, are Cassidy and Shirley Jones.

Cassidy revealed later that he had gone bankrupt in 1980s, despite being a well-known and successful musician. Arista released the 1985 single “The Last Kiss” featuring George Michael as backing vocals. It reached number six in the United Kingdom, and continued to be a hit in the music business.

Cassidy returned to the top 40 American singles charts in 1990 with “Lyin’ To Myself,” taken from his album David Cassidy. Enigma Records issued the single. The album Didn’t You Used To Be …, was released by Scotti Brothers Records on December 12, 1992.

The 1998 hit song “No Bridge I Wouldn’t Cross”, from Old Trick New Dog by him, which released on his Slamajama Records label in 1998, was a huge success in adult current music.

Personal life

Cassidy married Kay Lenz on April 3, 1977 and they divorced on December 28, 1982. Cassidy married Meryl Tanz in 1984. She was a horse breeder and would be his second wife. They divorced in1988. Cassidy married Sue Shifrin on March 30, 1991. This was Shifrin’s second marriage and Cassidy’s third time in the marital circle.

Cassidy got arrested in Florida on November 3, 2010 for driving while under the influence of alcohol (DUI). David was detained by police in Schodack (New York) on August 21st 2013. Cassidy was stopped by a police cruiser going the opposite direction when his headlights became too bright. He then pulled over and ticketed.

Cassidy failed a field sobriety exam and then given a breathalyzer to check her blood alcohol content. Her blood alcohol level was 0.10% which was above the legal limit of New York’s 0.08%.
